The Hospital de la Encarnación (full name Hospital de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, also popularly known as Hospital de la Encarnación or Hospital de Hombres ) is a former hospital in Zamora . Its founding charter was drawn up in 1629, although it was not inaugurated until March 25, 1678. The building was designed by Juan Gómez de Mora , architect to Philip III . After several renovations in the 19th century and finally in the 20th century for rehabilitation, it currently forms part of the building that houses the Provincial Council in the Plaza de Viriato . It was also known as the Provincial Hospital of the Incarnation.

The hospital's foundation is attributed to the brothers Isidro and Pedro Morán Pereira . Isidro acquired the land where the Escalante family's ancestral home stood, and upon his death, his brother Pedro took charge of fulfilling his will. The architect Juan Gómez de Mora was responsible for the design in 1629; in some accounts, it is mentioned that it was a copy of the palace of the Counts of Alba and Aliste . His design included a church in the style of Jacopo Vignola.

In 1762, the hospital's capacity was modified to accommodate soldiers wounded in the wars with Portugal. In 1765, the Pavilion, which occupies part of the Plaza de Santa María La Nueva and was designed by Manuel Godoy , was added . It underwent renovations and expansions in the mid- 19th century , and later in the 20th century , due to the rehabilitation it underwent to become the permanent headquarters of the Provincial Council.

Inside, a large courtyard stands out, composed of twenty segmental arches on which Doric columns rest , and those on the upper floor, double in number, rest on pilasters .
